With the advent on 4G data services and less costly mobile data packs, it has become much easier for us to watch YouTube videos on our iPhone or iPad. But there are certain videos that we want to watch again and again. We would also like to download such videos and save in our own device. The other day, I came across such a YouTube video and wanted to download it in my iPhone. But, surprisingly, there is no YouTube Downloader app available in App Store. There are a couple of apps which named themselves as YouTube Downloader for iPhone — but they are not what they claim to be.
So, the question remains, how do you download a YouTube video in iPhone or iPad? Thankfully, I found a way and was able to download the video I wanted. This method is a bit complicated but it works! Just follow the instructions given in this tutorial.
Downloading YouTube Videos in iPhone and iPad
As I mentioned, at present, there is no app available for this purpose. So, don’t waste time looking in the App Store. Take the following steps to achieve the goal:
First of all open the YouTube app in your iPhone or iPad. Go to the video that you want to download. When the video begins to play, tap on the Share icon (at present depicted by a curved arrow) and copy the link URL of the video. You will need it.
Now go to App Store. Download and install the Documents 5 app. This app may not be available in all the countries but it is known to exist in the App Store servers that cater to countries like USA, Canada, UK and India.
Open Documents 5 app and you will see several folders including Photos app and a Downloads folder. In the bottom right corner, you will see a Safari like icon (like a compass). Tap on this icon to open a web browser within the Document 5 app. Type savefromnet in the address bar and search for it. You will see Google search results for the term savefromnet. Open the link from en.savefrom.net website:
When en.savefrom.net page will open, you will see a box asking you to enter a URL. Here you need to paste the URL of the YouTube video that you had copied earlier. Just tap of the box once and then again tap and hold to make the Paste option appear.
As soon as you will paste the URL, the website will load a thumbnail of the video along with a green colored Download button. Tap on this button to download the YouTube video in your iPhone. Additionally, you can select the video quality from the dropdown list shown adjacent to the Download button.
After tapping on the download button, you will be asked to name the video file. Default name will be the title of the YouTube video. You can leave the default name as it is or change it to the one that you want. After setting the name, tap on the Done button in the top right corner.
Now go back to Documents 5 main screen by tapping the Document icon in the bottom left corner. You will reach the home screen of the Documents 5 app. Tap on Downloads folder and you will see that your YouTube video is downloading. Wait until the download completes.
How to Transfer Downloaded Video to Computer?
When video download is complete, you can play it within the Document 5 app. However, you can also move the video to computer if you want to watch it on bigger screen. For this, just drag the downloaded video to Photos app as shown in the Documents 5 app.
- Open the Download folder in Documents 5 app
- Drag the video to Drag here link in top right corner to get it out of download folder. Keep holding the video, don’t release it!
- Take the video to Photos app and then into the Camera Roll. Now release the video.
- iPhone / iPad will move the video to your Camera Roll folder.
- Connect your Apple iPhone or iPad to a computer and simply copy the video from Camera Roll to your computer system.
That’s all. Now you can enjoy the video even without having mobile Internet connection. We hope this tutorial was useful for you. Should you have any questions about this topic, please feel free to ask in the comments section. We will try our best to assist you. Thank you for using TechWelkin!
