Facebook users in New Zealand yesterday received a shock when they found that their posts on Facebook began to show a new option “Highlight”
Facebook is testing a new feature wherein it will give the option of “pay to promote”. If you pay up your post will be highlighted in your friends’ news feed. Such paid posts will also remain in the news feed for longer time. Usually, the duration of a post in the feed is determined by Facebook on the basis of the number of likes and comments received and closeness of your friends on social graph.

Facebook is testing pay to promote feature
The trial shows that the price of highlighting a post is $2 which can be paid either by PayPal or a credit card. This move by Facebook is being seen as an attempt to promote paid social networking. Facebook, however, said that it is just making a test and is trying to gauge users’ interest in such a feature.
Last year’s Facebook Marketing Conference showed that on average your posts reach only 12% of your friends (this number stands at 16% in case of Pages)… Most of your friends are not able to see your posts because they get flushed out by the flood of posts from other friends –or get buried under the popular posts. These statistics must have inspired Facebook to see if users would be interested in coughing up money to keep their posts highlighted for longer time.
