Arrival of Google+ has proved to be like a stone thrown in the Facebook beehive. Hectic activities on Facebook’s design board began as soon as Google unveiled Google+ platform. Since then we have been seeing Facebook rolling out a number of changes in the interface as well as functioning.

Google+ became the fastest social networking website to gather the first 25 million users. It almost seemed as though Google+ took over the crown of social networking overnight! However, the truth is not that Google+ sold like hot cake among Internet users. Google had the advantage of already having millions of registered Gmail users. Announcement of Google+ via Gmail and facility to invite Gmail contacts to your  Google+ circles provided Google with a head start.

Google+ vs. Facebook

Now Google is getting as aggressive as it can be in terms of selling Google+ to users. Today, on the search engine home page Google is displaying a monstrous, animated, blue arrow pointing towards the Google+ link. Google homepage is the most visited webpage on Internet.

Facebook is also working in top gear to compete with Google. Facebook already has over one billion users and is currently enjoying the de facto social networking website of the planet. It is good to see that Facebook is finally addressing some of the long pending issues –like complicated privacy management. Google+ promises to serve you better than Facebook on all accounts where Facebook has been routinely drawing flak from the users.

One of the most significant changes in Facebook that has taken place in last few months is their chat improvement. Earlier chat was receiving a step-motherly treatment from Facebook. But Google’s popular Gmail Chat and GTalk Messenger has forced Facebook to go for a better chat facility.

Personally, I still feel that Facebook is way ahead of Google+ in terms of ease of use. However, this could be an illusion because most of us are used to with Facebook. Anyway, for Google competing with Facebook will certainly be an uphill task. The beneficiary in market battle between two corporate is always the customer. So, keep enjoying the new stuff on Facebook!
