Feed providing webmasters often want to know how many subscribers do they have via Google Reader. Here is how you can find it out.

Google Reader is a feed reading application from Google. You can subscribe to any number of feeds (RSS, ATOM) etc. through Google Reader and read all of them conveniently within the window of Google Reader.

More often than not, bloggers want to know how many subscribers do they have through Google Reader (i.e. how many people are reading their blog using Google Reader). Such a query arises because one can easily know how many email subscription they have through FeedBurner. But there would definitely be readers who don’t subscribe via email –but read their blog via Google Reader (or other similar applications)

It is very easy to find out the answer. All you need to do is to type name of your blog in Google Reader’s “Add Subscription” box. Remember, you should not enter the feed address of the blog. You need to force Google Reader to come up with the search suggestions. For example:

Enter a blog/website's name in the subscription box and click Add button

Enter a blog/website's name in the subscription box and click Add button

When you try to add a subscription by using a name, you get a list of search results. The website you were looking for will feature in the list. The number of subscribers would also be shown next to each search result.

Search results will also show the number of subscribers for each website

Search results will also show the number of subscribers for each website

FeedBurber can also show you how many people are fetching your feed through Google Reader. Remember, FeedBurner’s count will usually be higher than what Google Reader’s search will show. It is not clear how exactly FeedBurner arrives on the figure that it shows.

Dude. I just wanted to say thanks for putting this article out there. I really needed to know how many subscribers I had via RSS feed since I cannot get it right out of feedburner. I may switch to another service since I am not liking feedburner to well.
