Samyak Lalit is an Indian author and disability rights activist. He is the principal author and founder of projects like TechWelkin, WeCapable, Viklangta, Kavita Kosh among many others.

How to write circular text in Photoshop?“, asked Shantanu during his graphic designing class.

How can I write text around a rectangle,  triangle and free-form shape?“, thus states a question sent by a TechWelkin reader.

Photoshop learners often ask such question and are mostly advised to  learn path drawing. But I would say the method of path drawing is for the serious Photoshop professionals. Writing text around free-form shape requires path drawing but if you just want to write text around a circle or other geometric shapes, here is a quick and easy method. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Photoshop and create a new canvas
  2. Select the Ellipse making tool from the toolbox
  3. Drag your mouse to draw an ellipse (if you want a perfect circle, press and hold SHIFT key while dragging the mouse)
  4. Now select the Text writing tool from the tool box
  5. Take your mouse cursor on the circumference (boundary) of the circle you have drawn. The mouse cursor will convert into an “I” (called I-beam) when it will be right on top of the circumference. You may have to move your mouse a little bit on the boundary in order to get the I-beam cursor.
  6. When I-beam cursor is visible, click and begin to type. The text will come bent around the circle!
  7. You can press and hold CTRL key and drag the text around the circle.

Simple!

Now one more and pretty tip for you!

You can actually use the above method to write the text around ALL the shape that are available in the custom shapes menu. So, you can draw, ellipse, circle, square, rectangle, rounded rectangle, polygon… and even any of the custom shape!! Just draw a shape and begin type around that shape as described above.

I hope this tips was useful for you. Please let me know if you’ve any questions. Thank you for using TechWelkin!
