Samyak Lalit is an Indian author and disability rights activist. He is the principal author and founder of projects like TechWelkin, WeCapable, Viklangta, Kavita Kosh among many others.

Social networking giant Facebook (FB) is the king among all other similar websites. With over one billion registered users –it is undeniably the most popular virtual hang out for netizens. However, Facebook is notorious for making abrupt changes in the design of website and its functionality. There does not seem to be any “versioning” system in website development.

Why do Facebook Posts Disappear?

Facebook has inserted a new feature in its Timeline interface which shows only the most popular of the posts that you made in the past months. Therefore, while you’ll see all your recent posts on your Timeline –only most popular posts from previous months find place on Timeline. Facebook hides not-so-popular posts from your Timeline.

This gives an illusion that some of your FB posts have either been deleted or disappeared!

NOTE: However, mind you, sometimes this may not be a matter of illusion. If you post anything that several people find offensive and if they mark it as spam –Facebook will really remove your post.

But most of the time it is just the case of illusion. Your posts are not deleted but just filtered according to popularity.

Where to find FB posts that have disappeared?

The place to go to is the Activity Log. Go to your Timeline and on top of the cover image, you’ll find a button labeled as “Activity Log”. Click this button and voila! You’ll get all your posts arranged chronologically.

You can choose to see the posts from a particular month by clicking on year and month list given on right hand side. On the left hand side, options for filtering various types of posts are given.

There doesn’t seem to be an option available that can show the post back on your timeline. If readers know of such an option, please let us know also via comments!

I hope it was useful. Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions on this topic. I will be happy to try and help you. Thank you for using TechWelkin.

The entire Topics button disappeared. I’m really mad about it. For over 2 years I marked posts in different topics for reference. Now I can’t find them. They were sorted by subject matter so I could find all the posts made in those subjects. My entire system for organizing info in my group is gone. How do I recover each topic separately?

All my posts disappeared on Thursday morning, 15th December 2022. I have been frantically trying to get Facebook to reply to me since then (they have not) & tried everything I could think of to get them back. There is no way for me to get them back. Yes, they appear in the Activity Log but there is no way to restore them to my Profile page. The filter does not have any option to do that. I have friends who are software professionals & they don’t know the answer. I have shared other people’s posts but they do not show on my profile page. The posts are still visible to my friends because they comment on them, and I can see the comments in Notifications and when I click on one THEN I can see the post isolated on a page of its own. But it is not on my profile page – which is empty except for the message No Posts Available. I have to live with this version of Facebook now, where i will never again see my Posts, because I cannot create a new Facebook account. I am admin for a Group which helps distressed and devastated people who fall victim to a certain fuel provider. Some of these people are suicidal. I can’t risk shutting myself out of that Group by moving to another Facebook account. And, I have personal reasons to remain at the same Facebook address for estranged family members to find me in future. One of them has my Facebook address. I cannot disappear off to another account. So I will have to live with this distressing situation, and all Facebook has to do is read my emails, Tweets and Facebook reports and fix it. Its simple for them to fix it. Its simple software error. But they don’t give a damn about us. Horrible people.

Something similar happened to me. I use Facebook as a collective photo album for a very large group of people. One day all posts reflecting events prior to 1980 disappeared from my timeline. More recently all posts that I made prior to the summer of 2022 disappeared. They are still there but I cannot navigate to them via filters.

I love Peter Paul and Mary songs. I posted a few of them and info. also included.
That was the last two days. Today they are all gone!!!!! Did FB delete them and why??
They were not offensive. If FB does delete offensive posts, then why aren’t they deleting the sex posts which are a lot of older and men of all ages, posting what they would do to girls body parts and talking FILTHY. I was so shocked to read them and there had been there for a while. Why would my music be gone and Sexual descriptive garbage be left on?????????

I’m finding that every time I post, the post I made just prior to it disappears. Only after I post another new post does the first post reappear. But then the one after it is gone. Has nothing to do with popularity or responses. It happens on two laptops and for two different accounts, but does not happen on my phone. Any explanations? Solutions??

    • Maria says:

      Hello,

on Friday the 17th, my post has been published in aFB Group. On Sunday I noticed it has been deleted. I got several comments and I can see in my activity protocol, that I have commented them back, but they are deactivated. None of the Admins has deleted it. Do you know what happened to my post and why it is not there anymore. I didn’t post any political. I shared a story about my life.

      Thank you!
      Maria

I have had just normal tourist photo posts disappear, nothing objectionable about them at all. And they are nowhere to be found, even by your method. It appears it is happening to others too. But no where on the internet can I find help for recovery or how to prevent.

    • Sheila Bird says:

Hi Brent: I had a post disappear and found it in activities and just hit the share button and it reappeared on my timeline. If you can’t find it on activities, I’m not sure what you can do.

  8. Patricia Webber says:

I’ve been losing my friends and my own posts for some time now and it’s getting worse. We had major storms and flooding in our area and the posts yesterday and today were of the flooded areas and gave a great heads up to many of us. Why would these be deleted. It is so disturbing and I am really frustrated. I am receiving notifications of the post and can open them in my page from the notification in my email, then they don’t go over to my homepage. Thank god for saving them in my email, but this is defeating the purpose of having a FB page.

  9. Jimmy Walter says:

My public posts and those of others in the public timeline disappear immediately. No way that any one could flag them for spam, they are not, or offensive – unless opposing Trump and the deep state is offensive.

  10. Simon says:

I am really annoyed about Facebook as it has deleted several posts from both my timeline AND activity log. I thought it might be because I posted that I was going to watch ‘The Great Wall’ at the cinema and commented that I hoped it was a marketing video by Donald Trump. I have just gone back a couple of months and there are several additional posts missing of my family, pets and friends as well as a recent holiday I went on. I have identified about 15 to 20 posts. I have no doubt there are many more missing. I am irritated that there is no way of recovering these posts. I use Facebook as my diary and it is really annoying that Facebook is deleting my posts with no notification. I am especially annoyed about my holiday photos as I assumed they would be safe on Facebook so removed them from my phone to make room on my phone.

  11. Eva says:

Since yesterday in my fan Page all the post from July 16′ are not in the timeline, I can see them in the statistics but this is just for me.

  12. Marie says:

Hi, my question concerns a Facebook business page instead of a personal profile. Some fans do not see the last 10-12 posts anymore on my timeline. Where have they disappeared? All was fine yesterday. The posts (pictures, status, etc) are public. Some fans see them and others don’t… How can I fix this? I thank you for any advice.

  13. Mitch says:

What if it is missing from the timeline also? Does that mean that the FB post was indeed deleted?

This can really be a socially controlling and inaccurate summation of what the people think on any given page.

Kind of like living a lie. Or looking at posts thru rose colored glasses.

    • Lalit Kumar says:

Hi Mitch, yes, it is possible that Facebook would really deleted your post if a significant number of people mark it as offensive or spam.

  14. Jen says:

Why a person can’t find a correct answer anywhere on Internet these days? Facebook is not just hiding the timeline posts! I had one disappeared just today and it’s nowhere to be found and all friends reported the exact same MAGICAL disappearance of this exact video. It was about encouraging young people to take control of their lives, to claim the right to choose their food, their land etcetera… but of course, the government doesn’t like it so it’s gone for good and not hidden anywhere as geeks like you try to describe. J.
