I discovered it quite late that Facebook message inbox also has an “Other” folder. It was jut by chance that I stumbled upon this folder but when I did, I found hundreds of messages waiting for me there. Most of these messages were spam –but there were some messages that were genuinely written to me.
Well, like every email service has a “spam” or “junk” folder, Facebook also has a folder to keep filtered messages. The incoming message that Facebook considers to be genuine land in the “Inbox” folder (which you usually check). But if Facebook algorithm believes that a message is a spam –the message is filtered and placed in the “Other” folder.
Mostly spam messages and messages from people who are not in your friend list head for the Other folder. It is therefore important to keep looking at Other folder once in while because Facebook might, by mistake, place an important message in Other folder.
If you reply to a message which is placed in the Other folder –it automatically moves to the Inbox. You can move message to Inbox manually also by clicking on the Action button –the resulting popup menu contains an option “Move to Inbox”.
It is highly recommended to be careful while clicking on links that may come with the messages in Other folder. Messages and links in Other folder have higher likelihood to be malicious and may harm your Facebook account and/or computer.
If the count of unread messages in Other folder keeps catching your eye –you can mark all the messages in this folder as “Read” by clicking the “Mark All as Read” link. Use of this link is a good idea because it saves you from opening all the messages individually –and we know that some of the messages may contain harmful stuff.
